More detailed information

Valtellina, high-quality tourism
Livigno Valley
Livigno Valley

Valtellina is a wide region from Lake Como to the Stelvio Pass : thus it could be divided into small counties.
One of these is the County of Bormio, area surrounding Livigno, Bormio, Valdidentro and Valfurva. It is situated on the furthest north of Lombardy, in the mountain range of the Ortles Cevedale, the main range of the Central Alps , and the Cima Piazzi, range, with mountains almost 4,000 metres high. A multi-faceted environment, symbol of the authentic richness of ski slopes known as Alta Valtellina.
Almost 90 square km of grass, woods and pastures , where you can walk and go out for great hikes, of slopes where you can ski and glaciers , where you can practise any kind of winter sports: amazing natural resources which makes this environment particularly tantalizing for tourists.
Alta Valtellina offers, at the same time: snow 12 months a year, in winter and in summer, traditional thermal baths for ancient healing and treatment procedures, dating back to the beginning of time, trekking and Alpineadventures , together with a fantastic gastronomic culture which treats guests as kings .
Here is a short description of the natural environment to let you understand where the most important landmarks are.
Bormio's basin is a flat area beyond Cepina Valdisotto, enclosed by high mountains (more than 3,000 metres high) . Valdidentro or Valley of the Adda, is divided into two parts: the one of the man-made lakes of Cancano and S. Giacomo, the other one of the Braulio torrent which reaches the Stelvio pass. In Semogo, Valdidentro, Val Viola and Toscano Valley meet: the latter is a divide between the Mediterranean Basin (Adda Po river and Adriatic sea) and the Black Sea (Spol, Inn, Danubius and Black Sea). Beyond the Pass there is Trepalle with
the church of Sant'Anna, the parish situated in the highest position in Europe.
Valfurva, on the other hand, goes eastwards and it is surrounded by the Thirteen tops: they enclose the valley forming an amphitheatre made up of the Cevedale and Tresero mountain ranges, which, moreover, enclose also the Forni glacier. Extremely interesting is also the Stelvio National Park, near Bormio, which is the biggest protected area in Europe, rich in precious flora and fauna.
